Brian Ulassin - "Setting the Record Straight"

Setting the record straight – HE TOLD ME HE WANTED THE DIVORCE

It was the Tuesday after my daughters 12Th birthday. My husband came home from work with a smile on his face. This was very unusual, normally he would come stomping in the house and find something to complain about and than lecture me for at least 30 minutes. However, on this day shortly after he came home, with a smile on his face he asks me to come into the master bedroom. He said he needed to talk to me about something. He laid sitting up in the bed with his wine on the end table. He said, and I quote from my notes:

“We made a mistake in getting married.”
“The only thing we had in common is that we both wanted kids.”
“We are sexually incompatible.”
“You are too smart for me.”
“I should have married a dumb blonde who would hang on my every word.”
“I want a divorce.”
“You will file.”
“I am not paying for a lawyer.”
“It does not matter what you ask for, I will do what I want anyway.”
“If there is anything in the papers I do not like I will not sign them.”
“If you do not file it does not matter to me because I am already divorced in heart.”
“I am going to make you a one time offer, I will pack my bags right now and leave and your life will not have to change. You will still get the same amount of money you get every week to run the household and I will find a room to rent.”
“You have to answer me now.”

This was the first time he had ever spoken of a divorce. I was shocked. This was just a couple of weeks before Christmas. Everyday after that he came home with a smile on his face. Two weeks went by without further mention of the divorce. I decided to talk to him about the divorce. I asked him if he really wanted one and HE SAID YES! There is no mistake. HE ASKED ME FOR THE DIVORCE!!!
